Senior Girls Basketball

The senior girls basketball team competed in the London Fanshawe College Tournament October 12/13.  In their first game Friday, the Salukis played London Regina Mundi SS.  St Marys played a strong first half and were down only 16 - 11 at the half but were not able to match the scoring by RMC in the second half in losing 47 - 25. Throughout the game Lauren Stacey did a wonderful job in breaking the RMC press and also scored 5 points.  Stephanie Hairsine scored 14 and Catherine Wallis, Britannie Bailey and Eline Haanstra rounded out the scoring. Stacey Anderson and Amy Switzer are making good decisions under pressure and are assisting in the scoring.

In their consolation game Saturday morning, St Marys faced David and Mary Thompson HS from Toronto.  The Salukis initially had trouble scoring against the zone defense but slowly gained confidence in their team play.  Catherine Wallis consistently found holes in the zone and scored 6 points. Britannie Bailey (3 points) and Eline Haanstra (5 points) found each other for easy points and Stephanie Hairsine added 8 in the 53 - 22 loss. Andrea Payton and Jessica Jones are feeling more comfortable on the floor as they gain experience.

In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, St Marys played a strong Windsor St Christopher team in a friendship game. Brittany Sterkenburg and Sara Kennedy are developing their defensive skills as the Salukis continued to work on their defense and the team improved its team play in falling 36 - 15.

The Salukis travel to Clinton Wednesday, Oct 17 to play Goderich DSS and St Anne’s CHS in Huron-Perth league play.  The team travels to Tillsonburg next weekend for the William Orr Tournament.
