Senior Girls Basketball

In Huron-Perth league play last week, St Marys traveled to Clinton for two games.  In their first game, the senior Salukis struggled against Goderich and trailed 16 - 15 at the half.  Goderich extended their lead in the second half to 5 points with four minutes to go but St Marys was able to tie the game with just over a minute remaining.  With four seconds left in the game Stephanie Hairsine was fouled on a drive to the basket.  She made both of her foul shots and the team held off Goderich last scoring attempt to win 30 - 28.  Scorers: Stephanie Hairsine 18, Lauren Stacey 7, Brittanie Bailey 4 points.

In their second game of the day, St Marys played a great defensive game and had a balanced attack in which ten players scored in defeating St Anne’s 43 - 15.  Catherine Wallis, Lauren Stacey and Stephanie Hairsine each scored 6 points.

On the weekend, St Marys traveled to Tillsonburg to compete in the William Orr Memorial tournament.  In their first game Friday afternoon, the Salukis played extremely well in losing to Woodstock C.I. 47 - 35.  Stephanie Hairsine scored 24 points and Lauren Stacey 7 points. In the consolation semifinal Saturday morning, St Marys played Woodstock St Marys. The Salukis lead after one quarter but had difficulty scoring in the middle of the game and were down 30 - 16 at the end of three quarters. Despite outscoring Woodstock 13 - 5 in the last quarter St Marys fell 35 - 29.  Stephanie Hairsine scored 9, Brittanie Bailey 7 and Catherine Wallis 5 points. 

In the final game of the tournament, St Marys played London Beal SS. This game was similar to the previous game in that the Salukis had trouble scoring in the middle frames and were defeated 35 - 28. Top scorers were Stephanie Hairsine with18 and Lauren Stacey 6 points.

St Marys juniors and seniors play their final home games this Wednesday, Oct 24 against Listowel DSS and Mitchell DSS.  The juniors play Listowel at 9:00 am followed by the seniors at 10:15 am.  At 2:00 pm the juniors play Mitchell followed by the seniors at 3:30 pm.  St Marys final league games are at Stratford Northwestern on Wednesday, Oct 31 starting with the senior game at 3:00 pm.

This weekend (Oct 26/27) the senior girls travel to Parkhill for their final tournament of the season.  The Salukis play their first game Friday against London Christian at 5:00 pm.
