The Junior Boys Basketball team made its season debut this weekend at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. On Friday night, the team battled through some lake effect snow to take on the tournament favourites, Lambton Central (Petrolia). After working through some pre-game jitters, the boys competed well against the Lancers, losing 47-27 (Leyser 10, Smeenk 8). On Saturday morning, the Salukis faced the Listowel Lightning. The boys played much better, battling back from a ten point half-time deficit. Despite the balanced scoring attack, the boys came up just short, losing 55-49 (Milne 11, Coddington 10). The final challenge of the day was against the South Huron Panthers. Several new players made scoring contributions while the team battled foul trouble. The Panthers' dominant player (rumoured to be playing Senior this season) was bothered all game by Scott Anderson's strong defensive play. In the end, the Salukis kept it close, but couldn't pull out the victory. The final score was 48-41 (Leyser 13, Milne 7, Smeenk 7).
The boys improved all weekend and will now focus on preparing for the first game of the regular season, hosting St. Anne's on Wednesday, December 5th. Come out and support the team! The double-header with the seniors will tip off at 3pm at DCVI.

Do you have any digital pictures that you would like to see in the 07-08 yearbook?
Bring the original photos (in your camera, on CD, on a memory stick, etc.) to Mr. McAsh in Room 242. Currently photos of fall teams would be helpful; field hockey, tennis, golf, volleyball, basketball, and cross country.
Although outside the weather was frightful, inside Room 230 on Thursday was delightful. Four new students were accepted into membership of the prestigious Frog Surgeons Guild. Dana Youngson, Megan Penhall, Ryan Tomkins and Keith Mc Intosh all officially became professional frog surgeons, and received their certificates for Guild membership. Several delegates from the Guild were present for the induction ceremonies including Mr. Marcou, Mr. Richardson, Mrs. Jewson, Mr. Hairsine, Krysten Cardiff, Keisha McNaughton and Tanya Colbert. All four recipients said the Frog Surgeons Guild oath, and have agreed to uphold the objects and purposes of the Guild.
A large congratulations and welcome are extended to all four new Guild members, who are now entitled to all the rights and privileges of membership in this wonderful organization.

Last week the school became aware that a student had made threats towards DCVI. The school administration along with the Ontario Provincial Police conducted investigations into these threats. As a result of those investigations:
i) idle threats were indeed made towards the school in the presence of other students and an adult
ii) a meeting occurred between the school administration, the police, the student and a parent
iii) the student admitted making a grave error in judgement, and was remorseful and apologetic
iv) on the day in question, the student will be attending at an outside location and will be supervised
v) on the day in question, there will be a police presence in the vicinity of the school
vi) DCVI, like every school in Ontario, practices a Code Red Procedure to protect students when unfortunate circumstances take place.
The school administration took the time to address most students in the school last week about this issue. During that time we reminded students that making threats, idle or otherwise should never occur and that an investigation into threats will take place even if stated as a joke. This situation came to our attention because some people who overheard the student’s statements rightfully did not treat those comments as a joke.
This situation has been addressed by the school, by the police and by the parents of the student. The school has taken many calls from parents during the past week about this matter. The school administration feels it is completely safe to send your son/daughter to DCVI on Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Please feel free to contact the school with any concerns and ask for school administration.

This is an opportunity for parents and friends to sit back and enjoy! Admission is only $5 if the ticket is purchased in advance (at Stacey’s, Coffee Culture, the Friendship Centre - or from a participant), but tickets will be $10 at the door. Proceeds from this event will go to the Pyramid Centre pool and toward funding a musical at DCVI.
The Environment Team will have refreshments for sale, plus a silent auction of re-gifted items. You are invited to donate that “special something” that you acquired, but that you’ve never actually opened or used. Your unwanted stuff might be someone else’s treasure! Donated items can be dropped off at the school office marked “Re-gift.”

Congratulations to the Senior Boys Volleyball team for winning Bronze at the WOSSAA tournament.
The boys did it with dramatic fashion. The seniors looked like they were done when they lost the first two games by scores of 16 - 25. With their backs against the wall the seniors then went on to win the next three games by scores of 25 - 13, 25 - 21 and 15 - 12.
In the third game the Dawgs fell behind early with a score of 2 - 8. Keeping their composure they rallied back but were still down with a score of 7 - 12. At this point Chris Barber went on a 8 point serving run that saw the senior Salukis win by a score of 15 - 12.
