Senior Girls Soccer
The senior girls’ soccer team played in a season warmup tournament Tuesday April 1 in Vaughan. An indoor full field pitch served as a great way to start the season.
The team came out to a strong start against Michael Power High School, passing well and winning 2-1 on goals by Candra Staffen and Richelle Forrester. The girls lost a hard-fought battle 1-0 against Cardinal Newman and followed this up with a tie against Denis O’Connor with Candra Staffen scoring in that game. Going into the final game, the girls were tied for first, but were relegated to third place after a 1-0 loss to Mayfield Secondary. The lone goal in the game was scored on a penalty kick.
The team played great soccer all day against some big schools from Toronto and Hamilton. Goalie Sarah Kennedy played aggressively all day, never giving up more than one goal in any game. Nicole Meta controlled the middle of the field, and the midfielders and forwards all created numerous scoring opportunities. The defensive unit was solid and limited the attacks of the opposing teams.
Well done girls!
