St. Marys DCVI - Grades 9-12

PD Day - September 30

9:00 a.m. Equity activities  to promote awareness of our equity issues at DCVI and to prioritize which specific issues we'll address in the most detail this year. 

10:00  EQAO data analysis for grade 9 math trends over the last three years and for grade 10 EQAO trends over the same time period.  

10:20 break

10:35  secondary teachers each with course outlines and corresponding Ministry document.  We'll do a document walk to highlight those parts of the Ministry document that detail the content of the course and those separate and distinct parts of the document that detail the processes highlighted inthe document.  A comparison of the document to the course outline in order to ensure that both process and content are emphasized in the course outlines and assessment practices.

12:00 lunch 

1:00  department meetings (video on setting department goals and t'charts to be provided)  ongoing and continued work on the alignment of Ministry of Education goals, Board goals, School goals, Department goals and teacher's goals (student achievement plan)

Math and English will meet with SHDHS heads of Math and English as we establish the parameters and expectations of the PLC's betwwen these two schools and these two departments.  The School Effectiveness Framework will be the focus of this PLC.

 

University Information Program

Our local UIP will be held on Tuesday October 4 @ 7pm at Stratford Central Secondary School.  Plan to attend and take your parents with you!

Terry Fox Walk and Run

The annual walk, and this year run as well, for Terry Fox was held today.  All of DCVI - Grades 7 - 12, walked, or ran, through St. Marys to raise funds for Terry Fox.  Enjoy the photos that can be found on the DCVI Facebook site.

P.W.W.P is Back!!

A very successful PWWP Training session was held today at the Pyramid Recreation Center. Our new PWWP leaders were fortunate to hear from Ms. Findlater and participate in many valuable learning activities. The PWWP veterans joined the group in the afternoon bringing their wisdom and expertise. All our PWWP leaders demonstrated a great deal of enthusiasm and commitment today and we are anticipating a very successful PWWP program this year! Thanks to all who participated!

Terry Fox

The Terry Fox Run will be held on Wednesday the 28th.  T-shirts cost $17 and are sold at lunchtime in front of the office. T-shirts must be ordered by Friday September 23rd. There will be a home room challenge for donations. The winning class gets an ice cream cake and muffins.

FORCES.ca Tour

 
On Friday September 16, Mrs. Waldick and Mrs. Chateauvert set sail aboard the HMCS Summerside to learn about life in the Navy and recruitment in the Canadian military.  We left from Goderich in the morning and sailed to Sarnia, arriving in the middle of the afternoon.  The HMCS Summerside is based out of Halifax and it is used in military operations such as search and rescue, mine countermeasures, anti-smuggling operations and counter-terrorism.   The ship is approxiately half the size of an NFL football field and it's top cruising speed is 15 knots (37km/h)

Throughout the day, we were given an all-access tour the the ship, met a variety of naval officers (all different ranks), had lunch on-board (in the captain's mess!) and witnessed two different training exercises.  The first was a "man-over board" rescue where they deployed the Zodiac and the second was a fire simulation.

Gamestar Mechanic

Students in the Grade 10 and 11 Computer Science classes have been using Gamestar Mechanic to learn about game creation and then using those skills to create games.  They have produced some interesting games!  You are welcome to try them by visiting my blog - dcvi.typepad.com/mcash

St. Marys DCVI Athletics

St. Marys has a proud athletic tradition and some of the best coaches in southern Ontario.  The sports offered occur in three seasons.

Fall (Sept - Nov) - Boys Volleyball, Girls Basketball, X-country Running, Tennis, Golf and Girls Field Hockey

Winter (Nov - Feb.) - Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball, Nordic Skiing, Curling, Swimming, Figure Skating

Spring (Feb - June) - Badminton, Boys and Girls Soccer, Track and Field

Students must listen for announcements for tryout times and locations. 

Students are encouraged to get involved not only in athletics, but all extracurricular activities offered at the school.
