University Applications

Students planning to complete their Ontario University application over the holidays are reminded that you will need to pick up your OUAC PIN in Student Services by Friday.  You cannot apply without this information.  OUAC has sent a reminder stating that they encourage everyone to apply well ahead of the January 11th deadline.

Brendan Frew Memorial

On Wednesday December 21, 2011, the DCVI Community will dedicate a rock in the outdoor classroom in memory of Brendan Frew. Family and friends are invited to join us at 2:15 pm in the outdoor classroom. A time of Fellowship will follow in the library.

Spirit Week December 19-23

Enjoy your last week of classes before the holidays by participating in these Spirit Week events!

Monday - Santa Saluki  Photos

 Get your picture taken with the festive Saluki in the lobby, and we'll get you a 5x7 print by the end of the week!  You can get the picture taken with a few of your friends if you would like. Cost is $1.00 per photo opportunity.

 

Tuesday - Holiday Hat and Hair Day

Come to school with wacky Christmas hair or Christmas hats!  We hope to see santa hats, elf caps, glittery hair with candy canes in them ... Be creative!

 

Wednesday - Candy-grams 

Send a special holiday message to someone in your life by sending them a candy-gram to be delivered during period 1 on Friday.  You'll be writing a message to them that will be delivered attached to a candy cane.  For ony 50 cents, you'll make someone's last day of classes spectacularly special!

Thursday - Candy-grams

In case you think of someone at the last minute, we'll be selling candy-grams in the lobby for a second day!

Friday - Candy-gram and Santa Saluki Photos Delivery!

In additon to "DCVI's Got Talent", we'll be making your holiday start memorable by delivering the candy-grams and Santa Saluki photos from Monday.

 

Community Food Drive a HUGE Success!

A big thank you to the students, teachers and parents who volunteered their time at the community food drive this evening.  We had over 60 students participate, and collected a huge amount of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Food Drive Grade Challenge - time is running out!

Only two days remain in the Food Drive Grade challenge.  The Grade 12s are in lead, but they can be caught.  We are nearing the point of our first 100 items, which means that one lucky teacher will receive a pie in the face.  If you want to see more than one teacher go through this, bring in your items Thursday and Friday before school or at lunch. 

If everyone DCVI student brings in just one item, we would make a big difference in the lives of many local families.  Please donate!

Community Food drive

The Community Food Drive is on Wednesday!  Join us for an evening of fun, while helping those in need.  Permission forms are available in Student Services.  Forms are due by Tuesday at 3pm. 

Participants are asked to meet in the cafeteria at 4:45pm on Wednesday.  You will be put into groups with a driver, and given a route to cover.  If you have extra boxes at home, please bring them along. 

Upcoming College & University deadlines

Graduating students are reminded of the upcoming application deadlines for College and University. 

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 11, 2012 - University deadline.  You will need to pick up your PIN from Student Services in order to apply. 

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1, 2012 - College deadline. 

Don't delay.  Get your applications in before the break.  Feel free to stop into Student Services if you have any questions or want us to check over you application before submitting. 

Check out the Finished Mosaic Medicine Wheel

The Mosaic Medicine Wheel Project has come full circle and the finished product is back at DCVI where it will be displayed in our hallway.  Shown above are some of the students who worked with Métis artist, Brenda Collins to help create the Four Directions Medicine Wheel using glass tiles.  Thank you to Brenda and the Avon-Maitland District School Board for bringing this opportunity to our students.

 

Annual Food Drive

The DCVI Food Drive will run from Monday December 12 - Friday December 16.  There are two components - the Grade Challenge and the Community Drive.

GRADE CHALLENGE

Bring your non-perishable food items to the front foyer any day before school (8:25am-8:40am) or during the first 10 minutes of lunch.  (11:20-11:30am for secondary, 12:05-12:15pm for elementary)  We will be tracking which grade brings in the most items. For every item you donate, you will receive a ballot to go in a draw for the chance to deliver a pie in the face of a teacher at the assembly on Dec. 23!  Every 100 items collected in the grade challenge means another teacher will be added.

COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE

Wednesday December 14 please join us in the community food drive.  Groups will be canvassing the town from 5-7pm.  If you are interested in particpating (it's a fun event!), pick up a permission form in Student Services.  Forms are due by Tuesday at 3pm.  If you have a group together, please staple the forms together.  This event will count towards your Community Service Hours. 

We also need parent drivers to help the groups collects the food.  If your parent can come, please pick up a pink driver form in Student Services.
