Grad Bios

Superfrayne_edited2 Grad bios for the  yearbook will be collected on Wednesday, April 30 - period 2.  Be prepared by thinking about the following:  Nick Name; Pet Peeve; Best Memory; Favorite Saying; Probable Destination.

Grads will also be able to choose the grad photo pose you want in the yearbook.  Look at your proofs and look for the proof number.  On April 30, you can indicate the proof number on your grad bio.  If you do not indicate the proof number, the pose provided to the school by ADANAC images will be used.

Student Teachers

Last week DCVI said good bye to student teachers Graham Long and Nicolla Dougllas.  As part of the Education program at the University of Western Ontario both Mr. Long and Mrs. Douglas did four week placements that ended on Friday April 11.  Mr. Long taught grades 9, 10 and 11 Physical and Health Education while Mrs. Douglas taught grades 10 and 11 Design and grade 12 manufacturing.

Both staff and students would like to wish them both good luck in their future endeavors.

This year the trip will be at Blue Mountain Ski and Snowboard Resort in Collingwood, Ontario.  Blue Mountain is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Ontario.  Come out for a day of skiing or snowboarding.  The trip is available to all students from novice to experts.

The trip will be held on Wednesday, February 13th .  The bus is leaving from the school at 6:00 AM, and will be returning around 6:00 PM.  All students wishing to go on this trip MUST have a student card.

There are two different options to choose from for the price of the trip as everyone may not have their own equipment.

Option 1 -  $55.00  Lift ticket and bus transportation.
Option 2 -  $76.00  Lift ticket, bus transportation and equipment rental.

Please see  Mr. Jones or Ms Donnelly for the necessary information and forms. As there is only a limited seating capacity on the bus, opportunities will be given on a first paid basis, so get your money and forms in ASAP.

Hockey

The annual Town vs Country vs Teachers Hockey Games were held today at the "new" ice pad in the Pyramid Centre.  Also new to this year was an increase in the number of participants (teams).  In addition to the teachers (and friends) team there were both a senior and junior team for town and country.  Each team played the other team once.  Enjoy the extensive photo gallery!

Christmas Assembly - Team Building Activities

Imgp4090 This year's Christmas Assembly was yet another masterpiece and demonstration of the school spirit at DCVI.  Everyone was welcomed to the gym with festive music courtesy of the Mr. Sumstad and the DCVI Band.  Mr. Macou's classes presented two "interesting" musical numbers.  A number of talented individuals performed.   The winner of the mustache growing contest was crowned (congratulations Kyle).  And the highlight was, as always, the teachers' skit!

Ms McNaughton's Leadership Class divided everyone into groups and the remainder of the morning was spent in a variety of team building activities.

Food Drive Finale - Three Men in a Tub

Img_3793

The students of DCVI collected 3 tubs of food for the Salvation Army.  As a "reward", three "men" (Mr. Mills, Mr. Larsen, and Mr. Marcou) took a polar dip in the tub today at lunch.  This time the tub was filled with 7 degree water, rather than food!  Well done DCVI - your community spirit is awesome.

Community Food Drive

Soccer_2007_021 The first annual St. Marys DCVI Community Food Drive was held on Tuesday night.  Students braved the rain to help collect an incredible amount of food for the Salvation Army Food Bank.   Groups were assigned routes and sent out with parent/teacher drivers with a goal of helping make the holidays better for local families in need.

Mrs. Jewson’s group was incredibly efficient, returning quickly with a load of food and a complete route.  The eager team grabbed another route and set out again.  Many of the groups were able to get multiple routes done.

The girls volleyball teams had issued a challenge to the boys basketball teams, and a small but mighty group of boys accepted the challenge.  While waiting for an announcement regarding who collected the most food, Mr. Marcou was overheard stating that “The real winners here are the people who will be receiving this food.  However, the volleyball girls came in a strong second.”   Mr. Shaddick argued that per player, his boys hauled in more than the girls.

Thanks to the efforts of the community food drive, the big bin has been filled twice, and we are close to filling it a third time!  Mr. Mills and Mr. Larsen will be taking a polar plunge on Friday at lunch.  Bring in more food so that Mr. Marcou will join them!!

Great work DCVI!  Thanks to all participants, and our parent & teacher drivers.
