Student Senator

This year I have had the opportunity not only to be one of the co student council presidents but I am also the student senator for DCVI. Being the DCVI student senator I have had the chance to meet with other senators from around Avon Maitland and discuss what we do at our various schools. It has been a great privledge to work with these people. I have learned what other schools do on a regular basis and what sort of spirit events they have done. I also learned some of the not so good stuff from the other schools. Don't worry I've said good things about DCVI.

The 2008/2009 student senators need to be selected by April 8th. Application forms will be available in the office after the March Break. Applications will be due on March 28th and campaigning will begin on March 31st. The school will vote on April 4 to select the candidate they want to represent DCVI as their student senator. The chosen candidate is invited to the board meeting on April 8 in Seaforth to meet with the other student senators to decide who the student trustees are.

Any student who will be in either grade eleven or twelve next year is elligable to run. You must also be taking at least six credits next year in order to be elligable. Being student senator is a great honour and it will look good on applications for jobs or post-secondary education applications. Do not be afraid to run. This is a chance to really make an impact at school and for other people. Elections for other executive student council positions will begin around mid April. Any questions please feel free to ask me.

The annual Town vs Country vs Teachers Hockey Games were held today at the "new" ice pad in the Pyramid Centre.  Also new to this year was an increase in the number of participants (teams).  In addition to the teachers (and friends) team there were both a senior and junior team for town and country.  Each team played the other team once.  Enjoy the extensive photo gallery!

Christmas Assembly - Team Building Activities

Imgp4090 This year's Christmas Assembly was yet another masterpiece and demonstration of the school spirit at DCVI.  Everyone was welcomed to the gym with festive music courtesy of the Mr. Sumstad and the DCVI Band.  Mr. Macou's classes presented two "interesting" musical numbers.  A number of talented individuals performed.   The winner of the mustache growing contest was crowned (congratulations Kyle).  And the highlight was, as always, the teachers' skit!

Ms McNaughton's Leadership Class divided everyone into groups and the remainder of the morning was spent in a variety of team building activities.

Attention Hockey Fans!!!!!

The annual student - teacher hockey game is fast approaching and we need YOU to make it happen on the last day of school before Christmas holidays.

This year, there will be four student teams competing for hockey supremacy at St. Marys DCVI.  There will be a team for junior town players, a team for junior country players, a team for senior town players, and a team for senior country players.  The juniors will play the juniors, the seniors will play the seniors, and each team will get the opportunity to try and beat the always impressive teacher team!  You must sign up by the end of the week if you want to play.  Sign-up sheets are located on the window outside of the office.

New this year, there will be a free skate before the games begin, so dust off the old skates and get the blades sharpened to enjoy a few laps around the ice at the brand new Pyramid Centre.  There will also be draws during the game for fans to shoot and win great prizes.

The teacher team has already started practicing, and Mr. Brunton has already sharpened his skates in anticipation of the games this year.  Ms. Lawrence is ready to play and has challenged all the DCVI female hockey players to sign up and try to match her skills on the ice.

The teacher team is probably going to be unbeatable this year.
