  • Which are the most abundant? Problematic?
  • What are the natural and man-made sources of these gases?
  • What is the Greenhouse Effect?
  • What can WE do to prevent if form accelerating?

Question 2: Climate Change and Human Activity Essay

SVN3M Exam Quesitons

You must answer one of the two questions below.

 1. Out of all the issues covered in class within the broad categories of energy conservation, human health and the environment, and waste management, which do you believe is the most serious/important for society to deal with?  Explain your choice with examples covered in class.

OR

2. We recently watched “The Eleventh Hour” documentary in class. Leonardo DiCaprio stated that “we have a convergence of problems”, what did he mean by this statement? In addition, also explain why we need to “redesign design itself” or implement “cradle to cradle” design.

You must answer one of the two questions below.

3. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future as it pertains to the environmental health of the planet? Provide at least 5 solid lines of reasoning for your optimism or pessimism.

OR

4. We are all consumers of a variety of products; including food, water, shelter, clothing and other non-necessities. Describe 10 different choices you can make in the next 10 years that will lead to a more sustainable way of living. Explain the reasoning behind your choices.

You must answer one of the two questions below.

5. Energy consumption plays the greatest role in driving Climate Change. Explain how increased energy efficiency paired with alternative energy sources can reduce greenhouse gases and minimize Climate Change.

OR

SNC2D: Lab Questions

The Lab will be due Wednesday, April 27th, 2011. Please use your "TURN IT IN" account.

Complete the following questions.

Analyze and Evaluate

a) Calculate and record the change in mass for each reaction. Note whether each change resulted in a decrease, no change, or an increase in mass.

b) Compare your results from Part A with other students' results. Account for any discrepancies.

c) For Part A, calculate and record the average change in mass for your class.

d) Compare your resutls from Part B with other students' results. Account for any discrepancies.

e) Compare your results in Part A with with your results in Part B. Suggest a reason for the difference.

f) For Part B, calculate and record the average change in mass for your class.

g) Would the class results for Part B differ if the reaction were carried out in a sealed container? Explain.

h) Why would it be unsafe to conduct Part B in a sealed container?

i) Answer the question posed at the beginning of this investigation. (How does the total mass of the products of a reaction compare with the total mass of the reactants?)

j) Compare your answer in (i) with your Prediction. Account for any differences.

Bonus: Write the word equations and the chemical equations for the reactions that have occurred.
