I would like to welcome my ENG3C students to the start of a new semester. You will find this to be a busy and challenging semester as we prepare for your departure to a college in two short years. This course has been designed to provide you with the skills that will make you a successful college student. That means that we will focus on business writing (including business letters, memos, and formal reports), and presentation skills. I will also stress the use of technology in the course since that is also an important skill in both the college world and the real world. We will be using Google Documents for everything. All assignments will be submitted through Google Documents, all assignment sheets and class notes will be provided through Google Documents, and individual mark sheets will be shared with you through Google Documents. I have also set up a class Site that has everything that you need for the course. All assignments and class notes will also be available here for download as PDF files, a calendar has been set up to keep track of important dates, and notices and reminders will also be posted here. The website address is https://sites.google.com/a/ed.amdsb.ca/eng3c/. There is also an easier to remember tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/3cenglish. Finally, I will also be using this blog to update you on assignments and upcoming presentation dates.
You will be completing an independent study that will culminate in your final evaluation. This independent study will comprise the bulk of the assessment for the course. It is important that you stay on top of the work given as part of the study.
We begin the course with a novel study-Of Mice and Men. Part of the focus for this unit is for you, the students, to gain an empathetic understanding of life during this time. Being able to put yourself in the shoes of others will be an important skill for your independent study as you will be looking at a global issue and the impact it has on people world wide.
Good luck this year
