Forgotten your Novell or Google Docs password?

The Novell logins have been reset so your password is the 3 letter code that appears on your timetable.

If you change your password and forget what it is, stop by and see Mrs. Hushen and she will send in a request to reset it (don't forget to stop by and find out what your new temporary password is!).

The Google Docs passwords have NOT been changed, so your old password will work.

Red Maple and White Pine 2012 books have arrived!

The Red Maple and White Pine books have arrived! You can find them on display in the Library - each book is marked with a sticker to identify whether it is Red Maple (geared to students in Grades 7 and 8) or White Pine (geared to students in Grades 9 through 12).

More information coming soon on how you can participate in the Forest of Reading programs!

Grade 9 Orientation

Welcome to the Library!

You have some activities to do. If there are not enough computers, you can work in pairs.

1. Complete the survey (the link is on the right hand side of the page). If you are working as a pair, I'd like each of you to do the survey  (2 people = 2 surveys).

2. Learn about the database by completing the Destiny activity.

--> check your answers by coming to see me and I will provide you with the link to the answers. :)

3. Pick up a Library Scavenger Hunt form and find the answers around the Library.

--> come and see me when you are done to check your answers.

You can then have a look around the library, try out the Reading Area or sign out some books and magazines!

Looking for audiobooks, ebooks and videos? (Download Library)

Are you interested in downloading audibooks (for your MP3 or iPod), ebooks (for your PC or Mac) or videos for FREE?

All you need is a small piece of software and your library card to make this a reality!

MLA and APA - How to cite your sources (or find out how!)

This fall, there have been lots of great questions about why, when  and how you use MLA and APA to cite your sources in your essays and projects.

On the right hand side of the page, you will see two sets of resources: 1 is for MLA (used commonly in English, History, the Arts and French) and 1 is for APA (used commonly in Science, Business, Physical Education, Physical Geography and Math). There are number of resources available to help you navigate through the use of these two citation and style formats.

What a warm greeting!

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the students (and staff) who have come in and greet us with such a warm welcome!

We are working on making some changes so please be patient with us! 

Until you receive your student cards, please bring your timetable with you when you come to sign out books.

In the near future, all of the magazines will be available on the display by the reading area. Feel free to stop by, grab a chair and read to your heart's content!

We have a lot of new books and all are out in displays around the library and are available to be signed out - there is a wide variety of books and some great fiction!

Grade 9 orientation will begin next week so I'm looking forward to meeting all of the Grade 9 students by the end of September.

Welcome to the Library at DCVI!

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Mrs. Hushen and I am the new Teacher-Librarian at DCVI. Like many of our Grade 7, 8 and 9 students, I am also new to DCVI so we already have something in common! I was the Teacher-Librarian at LDSS for the past 10 years so I'm looking forward to sharing some of the things I have learned with all of you and I hope you will share what you know about St. Marys and DCVI with me!

Please feel free to stop in any time - there are lots of great magazines and books for you to sign out as well as computers that you can use!

If you know of a great book you'd like to read that we don't have, come and tell me! I can help you get the book from another library and I appreciate the recommendations to help me choose books for your library - if you love a book there is a great chance someone else will too!

I'm looking forward to a great year and getting to know you all!
