Learn From the Experts Series at Little Falls

 

On Thursday April 11, from 6:30 - 7:30 at Little Falls School,  Dave MacDonald will be the guest presenter as part of our Learn from the Experts series. Dave is a Director of Stratford Children's Services, an organization which provides assessment, treatment, counselling, and supervision to children and their families. In his 'spare time', Dave works as one of three trained facilitators of the Leaky Brakes program. Leaky Brakes is a 12 week workshop designed to give families the necessary tools to deal with their childrens' behaviour. It helps families recognize childrens'  behavioural triggers and learn how to 'put the brakes' on them. He will explain the Leaky Brakes approach to dealing with behaviour, offer his own insight and advice, and answer questions. We will also examine the possibility of offering the entire 12 week workshop in St. Marys sometime in the future. 

Grade 10 Literacy Test

This year the grade 10 literacy test, or OSSLT, will be written on April 11 beginning at 9:00 a.m.  

Every eligible grade 10 student in Ontario writes this test on the same day and at the same time.  As completion of this test is a graduation requirement, we emphasize that all grade 10's should be in attendance on April 11.  This test is only offered once a year, and we have no control over the date or time it is written.  We ask, therefore, that parents ensure that appointments and excursions not be scheduled for that morning.  If a student is too ill to attend the test that day, he or she will have to wait a full year before the opportunity to write.  Please call the school and speak to the principal, Mrs. McNair, if your child is ill on April 11 or if you have any questions about the OSSLT.

Monday, Feb. 11, No rural buses. DCVI Secondary open for study purposes. DCVI Elementary classes are running as usual.

Friday, Feb 8--the school is closed due to a winter storm. Sidewalks and roads in St. Marys treacherous

Bad weather has cancelled rural buses today and so classes for semester two will begin on Monday for DCVI Secondary. In-town buses are running and so DCVI Elementary (7's and 8's) will run as usual.

Student Assembly and Parent Information Night--February 6, 2013

On February 6, we will be having an assembly for all students at DCVI in grades 7 to 10.  Tony Burrows, who is a police officer in Stratford, will be speaking to both groups.   The description of his talk is as follows:

• DRUGS IN 2013 - THE INFORMATION YOU NEED
• As adults - parents, grandparents, members of the community - we all want to safeguard our children from drug usage and its effects. To do so effectively, no matter the present age of our kids, we have to stay informed. Please attend the following presentation, the 4th offered as part of Little Falls' Learning From The Experts series.
• This month's presenter will be Stratford Police Constable Tony Burrows. At the present time, Const. Burrows is assigned to the Youth /High School Resource office of the Stratford Police Service.Const. Burrows has been a police officer for 28 years.  He spent the first 14 years of his career with the Guelph Police Service.  The last 14 years  have been spent with the Stratford Police Service. During his career, Constable Burrows has worked in Criminal Investigations, Traffic, Use of Force/Training and spent a total of 11 years working Drug Enforcement - much of that time undercover!  He was seconded to the Ontario Police College for 2 1/2 years and continues to teach drug, intelligence and senior classes there.
